Creative Commons

Creative Commons is a non-profit organization that provides a set of licenses that allow creators to share their work with others while retaining some of their copyright privileges. The licenses provide an easy way for creators to grant certain permissions to their work, such as allowing others to copy and distribute their work, make derivatives, or use it for commercial purposes. Creative Commons licenses have been used on a wide range of works, including music, images, video, and written content.

There are six standard Creative Commons licenses, each with different permissions and restrictions. The licenses are all free to use and can be applied to any creative work that is protected by copyright. The licenses also provide a simple way for people to share and reuse content without asking for explicit permission, as long as they follow the license terms.

Creative Commons licenses have become an essential part of the open content movement, as they provide a way for creators to make their work available to a wider audience and promote collaboration and innovation.

Here are the six standard Creative Commons licenses, along with their respective restrictions:

Attribution (CC BY):

This license allows others to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the work, even commercially, as long as they give credit to the original creator.

Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA):

This license allows others to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the work, even commercially, as long as they give credit to the original creator and license their new creations under the same terms.

Attribution-NoDerivs (CC BY-ND):

This license allows others to distribute the work, even commercially, as long as they give credit to the original creator and do not make any changes to the work.

Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC):

This license allows others to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the work, as long as they give credit to the original creator and do not use the work for commercial purposes.

Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA):

This license allows others to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the work, as long as they give credit to the original creator, do not use the work for commercial purposes, and license their new creations under the same terms.

Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (CC BY-NC-ND):

This license allows others to download and share the work, as long as they give credit to the original creator and do not make any changes to the work or use it for commercial purposes.

Note that these are general descriptions of the restrictions for each license. Please visit the Creative Commons website for more detailed information about Creative Commons licenses.
